WTF KFA, Korean foot ball is dead now

Some people are born on third base and go through life thinking they hit a triple.
Sadly Mong-gyu is born on third, and came back to first. I don't know how it is possible.
Maybe the problem is who is surrounding him, like a ring of corrupt.

안타깝게 몽규는 삼루에서 태어났는데, 일루로 돌아갔다. 어떻게 이게 가능한지 모르겠다.
아마 문제는 그를 둘러쌓고 있는 간신무리일지도 모른다.

 

 

For the past 12 years, Chung Mong-gyu(63), the current head of the Korea Football Association, has been deemed to ruin Korean football, and now, he will lead it for another four years. On the 26th(2025.2.26.), he was re-elected as the 55th President of the Korea Football Association, receiving 156 out of 183 votes from the 192 electors present at the association's hall.

 

Unbelievable. Anyone who loves Korean football dislikes Chung Mong-gyu(Dislike is so gentle expression). He's considered utterly useless and incompetent. Born into the Hyundai family, he lucked out. He is the only son of Chung Se-young, the former chairman of Hyundai Motor Company and brother of Hyundai's founder, Chung Ju-yung. While Chung Ju-yung and his brother built their companies from nothing, Chung Mong-gyu simply inherited his wealth. Perhaps recognizing this, Chung Ju-yung handed Hyundai Motor to his son Chung Mong-koo and gave HDC Hyundai Development Company to his brother, Chung Se-young. Although HDC was a significant affiliate and top construction company, now you have to inspect any HDC-built apartments for flaws.

 

Even a company that should run smoothly (a conglomerate subsidiary, no less, building apartments in an apartment-centric country) had its external wall collapse at the Gwangju Hwajeong I'Park under construction in 2022. Additionally, HDC faced issues like the 2021 Gwangju Hakdong building demolition accident, 2022 Gimpo shoddy construction, and water leakage defects in July and October 2022. If I were a shareholder, I’d want to grab the CEO by the collar. Thankfully, he's stepped down now.

 

The problem is, he's still in the top spot in Korean football administration. It’s been 12 years, and it looks like another four to come. Reflecting on Korean football history: first, he announced a large-scale amnesty for those involved in match-fixing in 2023, only to retract it amid backlash. Second, he appointed Jürgen Klinsmann as the men's national team coach without proper procedures, based on personal connections (Kim Min-jae, Son Heung-min, Lee Kang-in, and they can't even win the Asian Cup?). Third, he forcibly used an interim Olympic coach (Hwang Sun-hong), only to fail to reach the Olympic finals (a first in 40 years). There are countless other issues. Despite this, 156 out of 183 electors voted for Chung Mong-gyu as the next president. I’d love to see the list of electors; surely, they don't care about Korean football. Shame on you!

 

During the uproar over his eccentricities, with national investigations and all, he decided to publish an autobiography titled "The Age of Football" about his life as a football administrator. He introduced himself in the author bio as "The Dreaming Prince." He seems unable to recognize his own problems. It appears he is surrounded by people who only tell him how wonderful he is. At this point, it’s rather pitiable. One wonders what kind of life those born into such wealth lead. If he doesn’t keep his wits about him, he’ll find only opportunistic flies buzzing around, drawn by the scent of money. Much like Chung Mong-gyu.

이미 12년 동안 한국축구를 말아먹어온 정몽규 현 대한축구협회장(63)이 앞으로 4년 더 한국 축구를 이끌게 되었다. 정몽규는 26일 축구회관에서 열린 제55대 대한축구협회장 선거에서 선거인단 192명 중 183명이 참가한 투표에서 156표를 얻어 당선됐다.

 

믿을 수 없는 일이다. 한국축구를 사랑하는 사람이라면 아무도 정몽규를 좋아하지 않는다. 정몽규는 정말 아무짝에도 쓸모가 없는 무능한 사람이라고 평가받는다. 운 좋게 현대가에서 태어났다. 그는 현대라는 대기업을 만든 정주영 회장의 동생인 정세영 전 현대차 회장의 외아들이다. 정주영 회장과 그 동생 정세영은 아무 것도 없는 시절서부터 차근차근 회사를 키워온 기업인이라면, 그 아들인 정몽규는 그냥 재벌집에서 태어난 사람이다. 이를 알아본 건지, 정주영 회장은 아들 정몽구에게 현대차를 맡기고, 동생인 정세영에게는 HDC현대산업개발을 맡겼다. 지금 현대차가 엄청 성장해서 차이가 커보이지만, 그 당시만해도 HDC현대산업개발도 매우 큰 계열사였으며, 국내최고의 건설사로 평가받았다. 지금은 HDC가 만든 아파트(아이파크)라면 하자가 없는 지 잘 살펴야 하는 형편이다. 

 

가만히 있어도 잘 굴러갈 회사(재벌그룹의 계열사, 그것도 아파트공화국에서 아파트 등을 만드는 회사)라고 생각이 드는데, 2022년 HDC가 시공중이던 광주 화정아이파크의 외벽이 붕괴했다. 이 외에도 여러 부실시공 사실(21년 광주 동구 학동 철거건물 붕괴사고, 22년 김포 부실시공, 22년 7월, 10월 아파트 물샘 하자 발생 등)들이 드러나며 HDC현대산업개발은 크게 어려움을 겪었다. 주주였다면 진짜 대표이사 멱살이라도 잡고 싶었을거다. 다행히 지금은 사퇴했다. 

 

문제는 그런 사람이 여전히 한국 축구 행정의 최고 책임자의 자리에 있다는 거다. 12년간 그래왔고, 앞으로 4년도 더 그럴거다. 그간 한국축구사에 있었던 일을 꼽아보자면, 하나, 23년 승부조작에 가담한 축구인들에 대한 대거 사면조치를 하겠다고 발표했다가 비판이 일자, 전부 없었던 일로 하겠다며 사면을 철회했다. 둘, 제대로된 선임절차 없이 친분관계로 남자 국가대표 감독으로 위르겐 클린스만 선임(김민재, 손흥민, 이강인이 한 팀인데 아시안컵도 못 들다니?). 셋, 억지 임시감독으로 올림픽 감독(황선홍)을 쓰다가 올림픽 본선에 가보지도 못하고 탈락(40년만에 일어난 일)했다. 이 외에도 정말 많다. 이런 지경인데 선거인단 183명 중 156명이 정몽규를 다음 회장으로 뽑았단다. 선거인단 명부 좀 보고싶다. 분명 우리나라 축구에 관심 있는 사람이 아닐거다. 부끄러운 줄 알아라, 진짜!

그의 기행을 두고 국정조사니 뭐니 난리가 날 무렵, 그는 자신의 축구행정가 인생에 관한 자서전 '축구의 시대'를 냈다. 저자소개에 스스로를 '꿈꾸는 왕자님'이라고 썼다. 문제가 무엇인지 스스로 생각할 수 없는 사람으로 보인다. 주변에 '잘한다 잘한다' 우쭈쭈 해주는 사람들 밖에 없나보다. 이쯤되니 안타깝다. 도대체 저렇게 부자로 태어난 사람들은 어떤 삶을 살아가는 건가. 정신 똑바로 차리지 않고서는 주변에 돈냄새 맡고 뭐 하나 안 떨어지나 알짱거리는 파리밖에 없을거다. 정몽규처럼.
